Teatro Munganga creates Orixas
03 December 2010
Everything that ever happened repeats itself
Everything that is dead, comes back to life (From the Yoruba culture)
Orixás is a performance in which the fantastic is taking over the place of the realistic. With the smashing music og the Atabaques (African percussion), various Afro-Brazilian dances, like Capoeira and Maculele and colorful costumes, various stories about life (and death) are being played and told.
ORIXAS finds its roots in Africa, in the area of the Yoruba tribe. One day on African soil of the Yoruba-tribe a messenger was running from village to village, looking for the horrible problems of men and gods. Following the myth he needed to listen to all stories from the people, stories which were telling about human and divine tragedies, as well as about animals and other creatures menhood is sharing the earth with. After a long journey around the world, 301 stories have been collected, telling about luck and suffering, about the creation of life, heaven and hell, as well as stories about the fight against death.
